General information

The MGB-101 fits the gridbox sockets of the FEI VitrobotTM, the Gatan Cryo WorkingstationTM, FEI clipping and loading station and most other current cryo-TEM devices and stations. A notch in the edge of the gridbox matches the protrusion in the receptacle and prevents the box from rotating during loosening or tightening of the central nut. This central nut restrains the lid and can be opened or closed with our convenient “Turning Tool” (MTT-101).  For utmost ease of access during vitrification we offer our specifically designed Vitrobot  grid box stand (coming soon).

The core of the grid box is made out of tested, biologically degradable and durable polymer which can easily be cleaned with ethanol. Two different colors give a better contrast under liquid nitrogen and lead the eye to the right position.

The +-shaped chamber accommodates clipped grids in one direction and unclipped grids in both directions. This shape lowers the chance of damaging your sample, be they single particle preparations, cells or lamellae from focused ion beam milling. For unclipped grids the narrower slot will limit the grid movement to prevent damage during shipping, but users can decide which orientation is more convenient for their own working style. An enlarged opening to the grid chambers provides improved accessibility when using clipping tweezers with broader tips. The transparent lid is ideal for identifying filled grid chambers and the special access slot results in only one grid being exposed at a time while all others remain covered to reduce the danger of icing.

With 6 slots per grid box for either clipped or unclipped grids there is plenty of space for all your samples and no additional grid box styles are needed. This reduces your stock count, minimizes costs and reduces dewar space for grid storage.  Our grid boxes fit in all current storage systems made for round grid boxes.

Labelling

Your grid box can be labelled (e.g., date, initials, project number) using a fine felt pen. Labels can be removed with ethanol in ddH2O (>=70%), allowing your grid boxes to be reused for fresh samples. A suitable felt pen can be supplied on request.

Special wishes

Grid boxes can be prepared to your specifications. Let us know if you would like different colors or different coloring schemes for your grid boxes. Grid box designs can also be tailored to your needs if desired. Changes in design are made on request (additional charges may apply).
